Work and Play: Empowered Heather Is Driven to Succeed
Heather was reaping the rewards of employment. Her next move was even more impactful.
Much more than just a job.
When Heather joined our Wacol Business Solutions in Brisbane, the role immediately provided her with a profound sense of purpose and belonging.
Work gave Heather, who has Williams syndrome, a reason to get up each morning.
More than a decade on, Heather continues to thrive in an environment where she feels confident being herself and genuinely excited to contribute.
Additionally, Wacol Business Solutions has enabled hardworking Heather to develop important life skills and create lasting friendships.
“Working here gives me something to look forward to,” she said, enthusiastically.
“I love coming in every day and being with my friends and my team.”
For Heather, each task she undertakes is an opportunity to learn and grow.
A Life-Changing Adventure
In 2016, Heather embarked on an experience of a lifetime: she joined Endeavour Foundation’s Great Endeavour Rally.
The annual fundraiser involves participants setting out on a rugged 7-10-day drive across Australia, following a picturesque route that differs from year to year.
At the event’s core is a tightknit community that is passionate about raising funds for and awareness of Endeavour Foundation.
For Heather, the rally provided a chance to meet new friends, experience the warmth of the rally family and discover a new sense of adventure.
The camaraderie Heather experienced during the rally did not go unnoticed by her parents, Jimmy and Avril.
The pair watched as Heather was embraced wholeheartedly by the rally family.
Seeing their daughter thrive in such a supportive environment had a profound impact on Jimmy and Avril, and it inspired them to join the rally the following year. They have not missed the event for the past nine years.
A Vehicle for Success
Usually held each August, the rally is Endeavour Foundation’s marquee fundraising initiative and is regarded as one of Australia’s longest and most successful charity motoring events. Its importance cannot be understated.
Since it began in 1988, the iconic event has raised more than $12 million, which directly supports people with disability.
“The rally has funded so many projects in the last 35 years that quite simply would not have gotten off the ground otherwise,” Endeavour Foundation Event Specialist, Nathan Woolhouse, said.
“As a bonus, each year, it injects more than $400,000 into the small communities that we travel through.
“When you get a group of people together who are that motivated to make a difference, it is truly incredible.”
Making A Powerful Impact
And what a difference it really does make. Just ask Heather’s parents.
They believe their daughter’s job with Endeavour Foundation and her involvement in events like Great Endeavour Rally have been invaluable.
“Heather has grown so much since she started with Endeavour Foundation,” Avril said.
“Her work at Wacol has given her structure, friendships and a sense of belonging that we are so grateful for.”
Jimmy agrees.
“It has given Heather a purpose to get up every morning, to go to work or go and do something,” he said.
“She is up before us every morning.”
