Life in Lawnton: A Place to Grow and Flourish

Lawnton is a hidden gem for people with disability. We reveal why.

When you visit the Lawnton Learning and Lifestyle hub, the positive vibes hit you in an instant.

Found at the heart of Queensland’s Moreton Bay region, the hub is more than just a centre for fun and engaging activities – it is a space where friendships flourish, creativity thrives and community spirit shines.

Recently, the hub held an open day to showcase a sample of its exciting and inclusive activities, organised by Site Manager, Sarita Alay-ay.

Visitors were treated to a dynamic display of music, dancing, cooking, crafting and digital learning sessions, including Virtual Reality (VR).

A Day Full of Smiles and Talent

The Lawnton team brings fresh energy and positivity to everything it does.

In October, hub participants hosted a Halloween spectacular in which they wrote, directed and starred in their own movie, filmed entirely on site.

More than 150 people attended the premiere – a celebration of creativity and teamwork.

“There is never a dull moment at Lawnton,” said Sarita.

“Our team celebrates everyone’s unique talents, creating a space full of life and opportunity.”

The hub’s open days have proved popular, with six new participants joining after the last event.

Among them was Lucy, who transferred from Bowen Hills Learning and Lifestyle hub to be closer to home.

“Lucy decided to join us after seeing all the wonderful things Lawnton has to offer,” Sarita said.

“We always create pathways that best support our clients, and we were thrilled to welcome her.”

During the event, Lucy wowed visitors with her dancing, while fellow client John-Michael entertained with an energetic drumming performance.

Their enthusiasm and joy perfectly captured the inclusive culture that makes Lawnton such a unique place.

Dreaming of Independent Living

After the event, Lucy and John-Michael took a short walk to visit a nearby Endeavour Foundation home.

The five-bedroom house, purpose-built for people with disability, is just a stone’s throw from the hub.

As they stepped inside, John-Michael marvelled at the open-plan living area.

“This place is cool. It has so much space. I would love to live here,” he said, smiling.

The home’s location is ideal for staying connected to the hub’s bustling community.

For Lucy and John-Michael, it sparked dreams of living close to their friends and having easy access to their favourite activities.

A Lifestyle to Love

While exploring the house, Lucy wandered into the garden to pick flowers.

Hearing music drifting from the hub, she dashed to the fence to wave at her friends on the other side.

“It is all about connection here,” Sarita said.

“The home is being refreshed and will soon be ready to welcome five new housemates.

“With its modern design and prime location, it is perfect for building friendships and enjoying life to the fullest.”

A Community Built on Togetherness

Whether dancing with friends, learning new skills or imagining an independent future, the Lawnton Learning and Lifestyle hub and nearby fully accessible home offer more than just services – they provide a true sense of belonging.

It is a vibrant community where life is lived to the fullest.
