Everything you need to be ready for your NDIS plan review

Like the first time around, your plan review will involve a meeting, but what you should do to prepare for this meeting is going to look a little different.

Don’t worry though – we’ve got your back. On this page, you’ll find everything you need to prepare for your plan review. It’s a simple two-step process.

1. Get your free plan review toolkit

We’ve created a free resource that you can download, fill in and take with you to your meeting.

It’s been designed to be both painless to fill out, and to help you get the best outcomes from your plan review meeting.

2. Arm yourself with a bit of knowledge

You’ve probably got questions, so we’ve put together some of the main ones that we keep hearing, along with the answers.

Do I have to do this?

You do if you want to ensure your NDIS goals, plan and funding are what you want. Whist there are less questions the second time around, preparation is still key.

I keep hearing that people usually get less in their second plan – is this true?

There’s been a lot of anxiety around getting less funding the second time round. And honestly, the outcomes are different from person to person.

One thing we can say with certainty is that great preparation increases your chance of getting a plan that you are happy with.

Is a plan review meeting different to the planning meeting?

The biggest difference is that there are less questions the second time around!

No doubt you’ll remember the many questions that were asked of you in your first NDIS planning meeting. Your plan review conversation won’t be quite like that. The NDIS Planner or Local Area Coordinator will still ask some questions, but not nearly as many as were asked in the first planning meeting.

Who will conduct my plan review?

If you’re aged 7 or older, your plan review conversation will be conducted by either an NDIS Planner or a Local Area Coordinator.

If you’re under 7, it will be with an Early Childhood Intervention Partner.

Could my second plan be for 24 months?

Yes. We’ve been seeing people come back with 24 month plans. By doing a 24 month plan, the NDIA is saying that they are anticipating that your needs and goals aren’t going to change over a two year period.

For some this will be the case, but for others, their support needs will change.

If you foresee your needs changing sometime in the next year, it is important you talk about this with your Planner.

If you do end up with a 24 month plan, and your needs change, you can apply for a review.

Do I need to meet with my providers before my plan review?

You do not have to meet with your providers, it is up to you. The benefit is that you can review how the last year has gone and discuss what different or additional supports you will need to reach your goals for the next year. This is really good preparation for your NDIS plan review meeting.

What information will Endeavour Foundation provide for my NDIS plan review?

To ensure you are prepared for your NDIS plan review meeting, we’ll send you a report which covers:

  • Details of the supports you received in the last year, what worked and what didn’t work.
  • Details of your goals and the supports you want for the next year to achieve your goals.

Do I need to show service providers my plan and my ‘Preparing for my NDIS plan review’ workbook?

You don’t need to, but we have been finding that outcomes for people who show their plan are often better. It can help to give us a better idea of how we can best support you to reach your goals within the NDIS funding you have. It ensures that we are on the right track.

What if my first plan ends before my second plan starts? Can I get funding for that time?

A small number of people have been finding that there is a gap between when their first plan ends and their second plan begins.

If this the case for you, the NDIS will cover the costs as long as they are in line with what you were previously receiving in your plan.

What do I need to take to my NDIS Plan Review?

Here is a list of the key things you should take to your NDIS Plan Review:

  • A copy of your NDIS Plan.
  • A completed copy of ‘Preparing for your plan review’ workbook.
  • Information for your service providers about what supports they have delivered and what supports you need to reach your goals for the next year.
  • If you have a decision maker, you should take them to your meeting.
  • You can also take a family member, support worker or friend who knows you well and can help you in the review meeting.
