Hub Team Achieves Gym Goal After Pulling Its Weight During Fundraising Activity

What do our fundraising initiatives actually contribute to? Here is just one of many examples of a campaign creating a meaningful outcome.

In Queensland’s Moreton Bay region, roughly 25 kilometres north of Brisbane’s heart, is the Lawnton Learning and Lifestyle hub.

This lively venue offers an inviting and inclusive space for people with disability to learn, socialise and enjoy various engaging activities.

It is one of many similar Endeavour Foundation Learning and Lifestyle hubs dotted along Australia’s east coast.

While the Lawnton hub offers ample opportunity for participants to learn, grow and be active, many regular visitors dreamed of having an onsite gym.

They soon discovered the perfect way to help that dream come true: via Endeavour Foundation’s various fundraising activities.

Among these are peer-to-peer campaigns where Endeavour Foundation participants and employees unite to raise funds, along with the wider community.

In this instance, Lawnton hub regulars participated in a structured physical challenge. This not only provided them with a genuine platform to raise money but delivered a boost to their health.

Sweating on a Positive Outcome

Their efforts paid off. The Lawnton Learning and Lifestyle hub raised enough funds to build a gym.

And it has proved to be a big hit since opening.

“Our new gym is a fantastic addition to the centre,” Lawnton Learning and Lifestyle hub Site Manager, Sarita Alay-ay, said.

“With the funds raised, we were able to purchase essential equipment like resistance bands, dumbbells, exercise mats and balance balls.

“These resources have created a safe and inclusive space for clients to work on their physical health, mobility and fitness goals.”

Not Just a Gym

This new facility is more than a gym. It is a vibrant space that enables participants to shine.

“Our clients absolutely love the gym,” Sarita said.

“We have noticed significant positive changes in them – better posture, improved mobility and increased confidence when using the equipment.

“Clients are also engaging in regular fitness routines, which have been uplifting for their overall wellbeing.”

And the positives keep coming, according to Sarita.

“The gym is important to us because it aligns perfectly with our goal of promoting independence and the overall health of our clients,” she said.

“We wanted to create it as a space where they could not only focus on their physical fitness but also develop lifelong healthy habits in an encouraging environment.

“It is also a great way to build social connections, as many of them enjoy working out together and cheering each other on.”

Raising the Bar

At Endeavour Foundation, the level of care and support we strive to deliver to people with disability extends beyond the scope of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

It means regular fundraising initiatives are integral to our purpose of supporting people with disability to make their possibilities a reality.

These campaigns allow us to respond to the diverse, complex and individualised needs of people we support, to make sure that no one is left without the care they require and deserve.

As longtime advocates and supporters of people with disability, there is nothing more important to us.

So, you will find Endeavour Foundation running regular fundraising campaigns, including major events like the iconic Great Endeavour Rally, hosting annual appeals, organising corporate volunteer activities and plenty else.
