Hub Participants Embrace Their Alter Egos Ahead of Redcliffe Photography Exhibition
Have you ever wondered what it would feel like to step into the shoes of your hero for a day?
For Redcliffe Learning and Lifestyle hub participants, this question was not just a dream – it was reality.
It all began with a simple question: "If you could be someone for a day, who would you be?"
With some imagination, and a little help from artificial intelligence (AI), the Aspley Camera Club made these dreams come to life in a spectacular photoshoot.
From sports stars to rock stars, superheroes to explorers, our Redcliffe Learning and Lifestyle hub participants boldly embraced the identities of their heroes.
The collection of portraits captured not just costumes, but confidence, joy, self-expression and a whole heap of smiles.
Celebrating Heroes
Redcliffe Learning and Lifestyle hub Site Manager, Jo Calvey, described the transformations as “magical”.
"The energy here was astounding on the day. People I never thought would get involved were just loving it,” she said.
For hub participant, Richard, there was no greater hero than a firefighter, so he borrowed his friend's firefighter uniform to bring his dream to life.
When he saw his photograph for the first time, Richard’s reaction said it all.
“That is awesome!” he said, grinning.
It Takes a Village
Support Worker, Erwin Van Bladel, played a pivotal role in bringing the project to life, building important connections with local businesses and community groups.
“This project was a true community effort,” Erwin said.
“We wanted each client to have a keepsake to take home with them, so we printed and framed 37 individual photographs.
“This would not have been possible without the generosity of the Aspley Camera Club, Bunnings Warehouse Rothwell, Clontarf Men’s Shed, and our amazing community,” he said.
President of the Aspley Camera Club, Pete Law, and his team visited the Redcliffe hub for the shoot, bringing along lights, cameras and a whole lot of action on the day.
“It was a joy to give back to the community,” Pete said.
“This project has not only been an incredible journey of creativity, but also a meaningful way to connect with our community and celebrate each person's individuality.”
Fancy Attending the Photography Exhibition?
Participants will have to wait just a little longer to take their framed prints home, as the Redcliffe hub gears up to showcase the portraits in a special photography exhibition.
The exhibition, which will be open to the public, will take place on 4 December 2024 from 10am-2pm at the Redcliffe Learning and Lifestyle Hub – located at 8 Hutchison Street, Redcliffe.
All 37 portraits will be featured, alongside other photographs and unique artworks created by the hub participants.
The displays will celebrate creativity, individuality and the power of stepping into a dream, even if just for one day.
