Dynamic Duo Shines Brightest at GC50 Run Festival
When the Gold Coast hosted a major running event, two people we support quickly became the star attractions.
It was a weekend bursting with sunshine, smiles and sweat as Endeavour Foundation kicked off its role as the official accessibility partner of the GC50 Run Festival.
No smiles were bigger or brighter than those of twins Warren and Wayne, who had the privilege of handing out medals and water to competitors as they completed the gruelling 50-kilometre course.
The duo from Endeavour Foundation’s Mermaid Waters Learning and Lifestyle hub quickly became the unsung heroes of the day, inspiring runners to dig just that little bit deeper as they crossed the finish line.
“It was such a great day,” Warren said.
“We loved cheering everyone on and helping out. We cannot wait to come back next year,” Wayne said.
Made for the Big Stage
The event marked yet another milestone for Warren and Wayne, who have been part of the Endeavour Foundation community for almost 15 years.
Mermaid Waters Learning and Lifestyle hub Site Manager, David Cobain, praised Warren and Wayne for their contributions on the day, but said it is nothing out of the ordinary for the pair.
“The guys are fantastic ambassadors. Their passion for helping others and engaging with their community is unmatched,” David said.
Warren and Wayne have earned a reputation for embracing the spotlight.
Whether it is leading guests on site tours, dressing to impress for special celebrations or even doing an African drumming demonstration at the Endeavour Foundation Annual General Meeting (AGM), the pair loves a challenge.
Culture of Inclusion
Sport 3 Event Management Director, Adam Goodger, said it was a pleasure to have Warren and Wayne hand out medals on the day, with the team touched by their enthusiasm and energy.
“Having an accessibility partner at an event like this is crucial, not just for the practical benefits but for fostering a culture of inclusion,” Adam said.
“The ability to offer an accessible experience for participants means that everyone, regardless of their ability, has the opportunity to be part of the excitement of race day.
“The partnership ensures that we can deliver on that promise, and we are incredibly proud of the role that Endeavour Foundation has played in making that a reality for us this year."
As they reflect on their GC50 experience, Warren and Wayne are already looking forward to next year and are keen to take on an even bigger role.
Through partnerships like this with the GC50 Run Festival, Endeavour Foundation continues to celebrate the abilities of all its participants, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to shine – just like Warren and Wayne.
